German parliament independent lawmaker Johanna Kotar has urged the government to end Bitcoin sell-offs. She directed this call to Michael Kretschmer, Deputy Chairman of the Christian Democratic Union, Finance Minister Christian Lindner, and Chancellor Olaf Scholz, describing the action as “counterproductive.” Additionally, Kotar invited them to attend her lecture featuring Bitcoin advocate Samson Mow on October 17.

In her letter, Kotar emphasized Bitcoin’s potential for asset diversification to reduce risks associated with traditional asset classes. She argued that BTC can serve as a hedge against inflation and currency devaluation due to its limited supply. Furthermore, Kotar believes Bitcoin can stimulate innovation, economic sovereignty, and technological progress in the country.

In 2023, Kotar proposed legislation to recognize Bitcoin as legal tender in Germany, inspired by El Salvador. Recently, the German government sold a large amount of BTC, which likely contributed to Bitcoin’s weak performance. This sell-off followed the government’s acquisition of a large stash of Bitcoin tokens following the closure of the pirated website Movie2k.to over a decade ago.
