    Last year, BRICS invited six new countries to join the alliance, but only four accepted the invitation. The new members became the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Iran, and Ethiopia, while Argentina declined the offer. Saudi Arabia is still considering whether to join, while Argentina failed, and BRICS member India seems dissatisfied with the recent additions. At the 2024 summit, India is considering rejecting all proposals for new membership.

    Both Russia and China are aiming for further expansion of BRICS during the upcoming summit with the intention of creating a bloc that challenges the influence of the United States, Europe, and other Western countries. However, India is concerned that Russia and China are using BRICS to advance their own geopolitical ambitions instead of promoting balanced partnerships.

    Indicates that India is advocating for a pause in expansion, proposing a five-year break before considering the inclusion of additional countries. The goal of this pause is to give current members time to adapt to recent changes and ensure the preservation of the block’s initial principles of equality and cooperation.
