Russian President Putin said last week that he takes seriously the remarks made by US presidential candidate Trump on how to quickly resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
During the debate, Trump stated that he would “end it” with President Joe Biden, referring to the situation before his last term in office in January 2025.
Putin stated at a press conference in Astana:
“We take very seriously Mr. Trump’s statements regarding his willingness and desire to end the war in Ukraine.”
He also pointed out that he is not aware of Trump’s specific plans to end this three-year-long situation, given the summer demand and weather conditions, oil prices remain stable.
Putin has frequently expressed willingness to negotiate, but Russia recently proposed Ukrainian surrender as a condition for a ceasefire. In order to prevent further advancement in the southern and eastern regions currently under Ukrainian control, the Russian president called for the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from there.
