On the morning of February 22nd, the anonymous founder of the popular NFT trading market Blur, known as Pacman, officially revealed his identity on Twitter.
Pacman introduced himself, stating that he dropped out of high school and joined the well-known startup incubator Y Combinator at the age of 17. He then studied mathematics and computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and received the Thiel Fellowship created by billionaire Peter Thiel. He later founded a company called Namebase, which he sold to Namecheap.
Pacman stated that when he created Blur in 401 days, he considered whether to use his real identity or remain anonymous. He discussed this issue with Anish Agnihotri from Polychain Capital, and in the end, Anish convinced him with the argument that “starting anonymously and then going public is possible, but the other way around is not.” As a result, Pacman decided to use anonymity.
Pacman added that he enjoyed the process of anonymous development, but in order to build better trust relationships, he does not shy away from using his real identity when communicating with others privately. This is something that NFT enthusiast Franklin can attest to.
However, although Pacman disclosed his resume, he did not directly reveal his real name. Pacman explained that the name “Pacman” is a pseudonym for his identity, as it is easier to pronounce than his real name (an important clue). Therefore, he will continue to identify himself as Pacman and use a virtual image to participate in community video conferences.
Although Pacman did not explicitly state his real name, with the information he provided, we were able to find more information. As mentioned earlier, Pacman mentioned that he founded a company called Namebase and sold it to Namecheap. According to Crunchbase’s database, Odaily easily found information about this company. It is worth mentioning that we also found the involvement of Paradigm, the lead investor in Blur, in the company’s list of investors.
Through the information about the founder of Namebase, we identified a person named Tieshun Roquerre, and we found more matching information from the attached Linkedin profile.
After searching for Tieshun Roquerre on Twitter, we found a user named Tieshun/(@TieshunR), and from the user’s resume, it can be seen that they are a participant in Y Combinator, MIT, recipient of the Thiel Fellowship, and founder of Namebase. This information matches completely with Pacman’s disclosure.
Through another social media platform, Instagram, we found a user named “tieshunr,” and from the photos disclosed by this user, they closely resemble Pacman’s revealed images.
Furthermore, through Tieshun Roquerre’s personal website on Instagram, we can see that they also anonymously founded a company in 2022, although no further information was disclosed. However, we can boldly speculate that this refers to Blur.
Therefore, we can basically confirm that Pacman’s real name is Tieshun Roquerre.
